SPORTS MASSAGE – What is it & How can it help me?
Sports massage, sometimes called Swedish Massage, is the use of direct hands on to the soft tissues of the body to help stimulate blood and lymph fluids including skeletal muscles, tendons and fascia. Regular massage will encourage faster recovery from intense activity, help to reduce scar tissue formation and can reduce pain by removing chemical waste from the body. Massage also assists by getting on top of areas of soft tissue abnormalities, which if these go untreated, can progress to injuries.
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or perform at their maximum during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. But you don’t have to be in the Olympics to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is great for people with injuries, chronic pain, poor posture or restricted range of motion and those exercise enthusiasts wanting to ease those aching muscles.
